Building Confidence

At The JPA Academy, we know that confidence and self-belief are fundamentally important to a child’s well-being. Through supportive, creative and fun classes in the Performing Arts, we help the most timid children find their voice, and the most extravert personalities develop their skills to become outstanding performers.

Busy Classes!

We run classes in Acting, Singing and Dance in three age groups. Each group covers an extensive curriculum. We base our shows in Musical Theatre, but we make sure our classes tackle as much of the performing arts as we can fit in! Acting for Camera, Shakespeare, modern dramatists, stage combat, vocal technique and singing solo, dance, movement, staging and ensemble work…..It’s a busy time!

Our theatre schools in Tunbridge Wells and Sevenoaks, are designed to help the progression of all our students. From our Stage Sprogs to The Company, we help everyone to find their voice. Children at The JPA Academy gain creativity and confidence and social skills. We see them make friends with their classmates and the entire Academy. Our older students tackle deeper subjects, inspire solo performers, build repertoire, work on technique, and prepare for auditions for performing arts colleges. We hone the skills needed, not just for the Performing Arts, but for a successful and happy life.

During the pandemic, we ran comprehensive online classes in the Performing Arts. We added sessions covering West End rep, interview technique, tap (for parents too!), yoga, puppetry, body conditioning, acting for camera and script writing. This turned out to be a hugely important part of our students’ lives at a pretty rubbish time. A lot of them still look back at those sessions as the thing that got them through the lockdown.

Next Steps

A hugely rewarding part of teaching is the chance to help with big next steps. As children grow through our classes, from Juniors to Seniors and then to The Company, we are there to guide. Preparation for auditions, finding material, working on interview technique make a huge difference at a stressful time. The skills taught in our classes are a great foundation for independent learning. We have former students studying in some of the world’s top performing arts colleges. Many other graduates are following their musical theatre and performing interests alongside their studies in universities.

Opportunities

Workshops are a great way to learn from guest teachers. We have run a number of sessions run by performers who are currently working in top shows. Stage make up, physical theatre, improvisation, acting for camera as well as rep from shows, give the students a real insight. These workshops run in term time.

For any JPA student that wants to explore working in the Performing Arts industry, we work with Carousel Management, a children’s agency with amazing contacts. We meet with the team from Carousel Management regularly to discuss auditions and our talented students. JPA students have appeared in many adverts on television and online, short films, voiceovers, campaigns and West End shows.
